JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Led by sophomore Spencer Wagner and freshman Tyler Roat's impressive rounds, the University of Evansville men's golf team recorded a strong opening at the Benbow Invitational at Blue Sky Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

Evansville carded a 297 as a team in the first round, placing the Aces in third in the eight-team field. After the opening round, Evansville sits just seven strokes off tournament host and leader Butler, who finished the first round with a 290.

Wagner and Roat, who is competing as an individual, each recorded two-under 70s in the opening round as the two sit in a tie for second after the first day. Both sit just one stroke back of the tournament leader following the first round.

Also in the top 10 was freshman Dallas Koth, who tallied a first-round 73, placing Koth in a tie for seventh. Three-strokes back of Koth was senior Noah Reese with a four-over 76, earning Reese a share of 23 after the opening day.

Tied at six over for Evansville are sophomore Jessie Brumley and junior Matthew Ladd. The pair each shot a 78 in the opening round and placing the duo in a tie for 29th.

Two other Aces' competing as individuals are inside the top 40 following the first round. Senior Gabe Rohleder sits in 34th after tallying a 79 in the opening round, while junior Robert Waggoner finished with an 81, placing Waggoner in a tie for 38th.

The Aces close out the Benbow Invitational on Tuesday with the final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Blue Sky Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
