Aces open MVC Men's Golf Championships on Monday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After a succesful spring season, the University of Evansville men's golf team begins its pursuit for a championship at the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Monday and Tuesday at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.

The Aces will take to the 7,060 yard, par 72 course on Monday for the first two rounds of competition before closing the championship on Tuesday with the tournament's final round. A season ago, Evansville finished seventh at the MVC Championship as Tyler Gray led the way, finishing in a tie for 19th.

In their final tournament before the MVC Championship, the Aces finished in eighth at the Big Blue Intercollegiate in Old Hickory, Tenn. with a three-round total of 879 (285-296-298).

Leading the Aces from start to finish of the tournament, Spencer Wagner finished as the low Ace in the tournament. Wagner concluded the intercollegiate with a 76 in the final round for a total of 219 (71-72-76), placing Wagner in a tie for 34th. Finishing just one stroke back of Wagner, Noah Reese carded a final-round 75 for a tournament total of 220 (71-74-75) and a share of 37th.

Finishing the tournament at nine-over, Matthew Ladd totaled a 222 (71-75-76) as Ladd finished in a tie for 44th. Freshman Dallas Koth closed the tournament with a 77 in the finakl round for a total of 224 (72-75-77), placing Koth in a tie for 53 after the final day of competition.

Recording his best round of the tournament on the final day, Jessie Brumley marked a six-stroke improvement in the final round with a 71, moving Brumley up 14 spots into a tie for 57th with a three-round total of 225 (77-77-71). Competing as an individual, Robert Waggoner shot a 76 on the final day, giving Waggoner a total of 227 (72-79-76), finishing in a tie for 61st.

Also competing as an individual was Gabe Rohleder, who finished with a total of 230 (75-78-77) following a 77 on Tuesday as Rohleder ended the tournament in a tie for 67th.

Evansville begins the MVC Championships on Monday, teeing off in the first round of the tournament with a shotgun strart at 8:30 a.m. at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.
