EVANSVILLE - In a non-conference match at Arad McCutchan Stadium, the University of Evansville men's soccer team fell to Santa Clara, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides struggled to find much success offensively in the opening minutes of the first half. Redshirt sophomore Davis Peck tallied the first shot of the match in the 16th minute as Peck's shot missed high. Santa Clara forced the first of eight saves on the afternoon from senior Frederik Reimer as Sam Agosti's shot was saved. The two teams went to the break in a scoreless tie with the Broncos owning a 5-1 advantage on shots.

In the second half, Santa Clara broke the deadlock in the 54th minute as Eduardo Lopez Perez scored on a header off a cross from Emil Christensen. Evansville nearly equalized in the 66th minute as freshman Lucas Weir challenged Santa Clara goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho. The Aces had another chance in the 72nd minute as redshirt senior Hunter DeWeese headed the ball at goal, but saw it saved by Mecho. As the half came to a close, the Broncos increased their lead after earning a penalty kick that Alejandro Barajas converted in the 89th minute.
The Aces return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they play host to 19th-ranked Missouri State at 5 PM.
