EVANSVILLE - Getting back on the pitch, the University of Evansville men's soccer team has announced its five-match schedule for the spring.
"The spring calendar always affords us the opportunity to spend more time focusing on the development of individual players while also emphasizing the culture and playing style of our program," said Aces head men's soccer coach Marshall Ray. "This semester will be important for the players as they continue to better understand their roles and responsibilities on and off the field."Â
The schedule is balanced featuring three matches at Arad McCutchan Stadium and a pair of matches on the road.
The Aces spring slate opens with a tough road contest against a perennial NCAA College Cup contender. Evansville makes the trip across I-64 to face Louisville on March 1 at 5 PM. The Cardinals made a Sweet 16 appearance in 2019 under new head coach John Michael Hayden and finished the season inside the top 20 of the United Soccer Coaches rankings.
Evansville's first home contest of the spring comes on March 22 at 2 PM against Bellarmine. The game will be a preview of the Aces' regular season opener in the fall as the Knights make the move to NCAA Division I. Last season, Bellarmine made a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight and finished in the top 20 of USC's rankings for NCAA Division II.
The second-straight home match for Evansville, the Aces welcome UIndy to Arad McCutchan Stadium at 2:30 PM on April 4. The Greyhounds were one of the best teams in NCAA Division II last season, reaching the Final Four.
The Aces round-out the road portion of their spring schedule with a trip to take on Lipscomb at 7:30 PM on April 8. Evansville and Lipscomb battled to a 1-1 tie in their regular season meeting in 2019 and will once again do battle during the fall at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
"Once we get back from spring break we will have a month of matches concluding with the Mayor's Cup," said Ray. "This match has grown into a great community event. We are proud to partner with USI, the YMCA, and the EVSC to ensure the sport of soccer continues to grow in the greater Evansville area." Â
Closing out the spring, Evansville takes on USI for the two sides' annual Mayor's Cup clash. The game will be held on April 15 at 6 PM at Arad McCutchan Stadium with all proceeds from tickets going to benefit YMCA youth soccer programs in the area. The two teams have raised roughly $10,000 in the past five years for the YMCA community outreach programs. Please join us for the match and help us continue to provide opportunities as we strive to raise $5000 at the 5
th annual Mayor's Cup.
