VALPARAISO, Ind. - Hitting the midway point of a three-game road trip, the University of Evansville women's basketball team looks to pick-up a road win on Thursday at Valparaiso.
Â
Last Game: Indiana State 68, Evansville 58
- A pair of Aces finished in double-figures for Evansville, as freshman Abby Feit tied for a game-high with 16 points, while pulling down six boards and blocking three shots.
- Sophomore A'Niah Griffin also recorded a double-digit scoring performance with 12 points on an efficient 5-10 shooting night.
- Dejanae Williams scored 16 points to lead the Sycamores, hitting a game-high four three-pointers.
- Rebounds were the defining statistic of the night as the Sycamores grabbed 12 more boards than the Aces and attempted six more shots than Evansville.
- Despite a late positive stretch from the free-throw line, Evansville also struggled at the charity stripe on the night, shooting 12-25 (48%)Â from the stripe.
- Evansville never truly let its deficit get out-of-hand, but the Aces never led on the evening.
- On multiple occasions down the stretch, the Aces cut the Sycamores' lead to four or less, twice moving within three points during the fourth quarter.
- The Aces never drew closer than three in the final period and Indiana State scored five-straight points during the mid-point of the fourth to secure its lead en route to the 10-point win.
Previewing the Matchup
- Evansville and Valparaiso are meeting for just the 18th time with the Crusaders owning a narrow 9-8 advantage in the all-time series.
- The Aces and Crusaders met in Evansville earlier this season as Valpo shot its way to an 88-66 win on Jan. 12.
- In Valpo's win earlier this year over the Aces, the Crusaders shot 48% from three, hitting 14 triples, and went 30-52 (57.7%) from the field, the highest field-goal percentage by an Aces' opponent since Valpo shot 58.3% last season in a 93-49 Crusaders' win on Jan. 20, 2019.
- Valpo has won four of the last five meetings in the series, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
- Evansville's last win in Valparaiso came on Dec. 3, 2010 when UE captured a 70-65 victory over Valpo in what was then a non-conference contest.
- Valpo has held strong on its home floor in the last two matchups, winning by an average of 43 points inside the ARC.
- Evansville again struggled at the free-throw line on Friday night, shooting just 48% (12-25) from the charity stripe against Indiana State in a 68-58 loss. The Aces are shooting 64.4% from the stripe this season, down from 77.2% last season and 82% in 2017-18 (the best free-throw shooting percentage in the nation).
- The Aces are searching for a third scorer to help fuel its offense. Evansville has had two or less players finish in double-figures in five-straight games with Abby Feit the only Ace to reach double-digits in all five contests.
- Valpo enters Thursday's game after dropping a pair of games this past weekend to UNI and Drake. The Crusaders fell to Drake, 87-66, to open the weekend, before falling to UNI, 77-70, in a close battle on Sunday.
