Aces Take on the MVC Championship Day One

CARBONDALE, Ill.- The University of Evansville women's swimming and diving team traveled to Carbondale, Ill. on Wednesday to compete in the first day of the Missouri Valley Conference championships.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay kicked off the finals with a seventh-place finish. Jessie Steele, Alexa Markl, Emily Vasquez, and Iryna Tsesiul swam the race with a time of 1:35.73.
 
Tsesiul and Steele were also both a part of the 400-medley relay along with their teammates Sage Moore and Maya Cunningham. The relay finished in fourth place with a time of 3:46.66.
 
Steele also swam in the 50-yard freestyle where she finished thirteenth (24.05).
 
Three Aces set personal records today. First was Sonsoles Aguayo. She swam the 500-yard freestyle in 5:04.43, coming in fourteenth place. This time put her name at seventh place in the Evansville record book.
 
Moore followed her lead in the 200-yard IM with an eighth-place finish (2:06.71).
 
Cunningham completed the personal record streak in the 200-yard IM, as well. She qualified for the B final where she earned fifteenth place in the event with a time of 2:06.63. Her performance earned her fifth place on the record books. She previously held ninth place with a time of 2:08.40.
 
On the 1-meter diving board Maggie Franz took ninth (223.25), Natalie Gerard (202.55) took 12th, Maddie Rollett (201.00) took 13th and Sarah Kempf took 16th (187.70).
 
The Aces return to Southern Illinois University's pool for day two of the championship. Preliminary trials begin at 10 a.m. CT, diving begins at 2 p.m. CT and finals begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.
