Cunningham leads the Aces in Successful MVC Championship Day Two

CARBONDALE, Ill.- The University of Evansville swimming and diving team hit the pool for the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference championships on Thursday.
 
Maya Cunningham began finals with a fifth-place finish (1:44.63) in the 200-yard medley relay. She was accompanied by Iryna Tsesiul, Sage Moore, and Jessie Steele. Her highlight of the day, however, came in the 400-yard IM. She placed fourth with a time of 4:27.36, earning herself the UE record in the event.
 
Moore and Tsesiul also had successful days. Moore finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.71. Tsesiul swam in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.37, earning herself sixth place in the event.  
 
Emily Vasquez finished in nineteenth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.73.
 
The 200-yard freestyle was swam by Alexa Markl and Sonsoles Aguayo. Markl placed ninth (1:52.78) with a time to earn her sixth place, while Aguayo placed thirteenth with a time of 1:54.03.
 
The 800-yard relay team placed fourth with a time of 7:36.54. The race was swam by Aguayo, Sarah Jahns, Andrea Ramis, and Alexa Markl.
 
The diving team had their three-meter preliminary trials this afternoon. Maggie Franz led the event for the team by finishing in sixth with a score of 209.25. Maddie Rollett (172.90), Natalie Gerard (165.25) and Sarah Kempf (158.60) finished in seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth place.
 
The Aces will finish out their season tomorrow with preliminary trial beginning at  10 a.m. CT, diving finals beginning at  2:30 p.m. CT, and swimming final beginning at  5 p.m. CT.
