Box Score LOUISVILLE - Leading with less than five minutes remaining, the University of Evansville men's soccer team saw its hopes of a road victory dashed with two late goals from Louisville in a 2-1 loss in Louisville on Monday night.
"The guys are gutted in the locker room, as they should be.  They can hold their head high because they competed and battled for 90 minutes," said Aces head men's soccer coach Marshall Ray. "This proves to ourselves we have the ability to compete with any team in the country. We're looking forward to this week and getting Edward Mendy, Nkosi Graham, and Ryan Harris back with the squad. We'll prepare for next weekend and look to build on the positives. I'm proud of the way our guys responded to our staff's challenge this week and stepped on the field to compete for every inch tonight."
A balanced opening half got underway and quickly saw Evansville generate a chance. In the fifth minute, sophomore Pablo Guillen recorded the first shot of the match, putting it on frame and forcing a save by the Cardinals. The Aces backline kept Louisville from posing much of a threat during the early portions of the match before the Cardinals got the attack going later in the half. The 39th minute saw fifth-year senior Filip Johansson put a shot on goal, the second of the half for UE, that again forced a save.
Action picked up and did so quickly in the second half. Evansville pushed forward, posing a threat, but not recording a shot until the 63rd minute. When the Aces were presented an opportunity though, UE took advantage. A high arcing ball was played into the air that Jakub Hall headed into the box. Fifth-year senior Davis Peck put himself in the right spot, chesting the ball down and finding space before calmly slipping the ball past the keeper to give the Aces the 1-0 lead.
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Matt Bryant was terrific in goal as Louisville ratcheted up the attack late in the half. Bryant made clearance after clearance, keeping Evansville in front, recording a total of four saves in the final 45 minutes. With just four minutes left in the match, Louisville's persistent attack paid off, with a ball Sander Roed finding the back of the net to knot the match.
Just two minutes later, the Cardinals scored again as Aboubacar Camara found space and scored with 1:45 remaining as Louisville captured the 2-1 win.
Evansville comes back to Arad McCutchan Stadium at 2 PM on Saturday to begin a two-game homestand with a matchup with Kentucky Wesleyan.
