EVANSVILLE - After a productive preseason, the University of Evansville men's soccer team sets its sights on the regular season with the opener at Bellarmine at 6 PM on Thursday evening in Louisville, Ky.
Â
Beginning the second-straight campaign against the Bellarmine Knights, Evansville will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to BU in last season's opener. The Knights concluded the 2021 campaign with a 7-8-2 overall record before advancing to the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament. Back for Bellarmine are two of its top four goal-scorers from a season ago with one name that might sound familiar to Aces fans. Redshirt junior forward Nolan McGrath returns after scoring three times in 2021 and is plenty familiar with the men's soccer program at UE after watching his brother, Ian McGrath, score 27 goals across four seasons with Evansville. McGrath has also faced the Aces a handful of times in the past, previously playing for Loyola.
Evansville saw an impressive performance out of its squad this past Sunday in its final preseason fixture, earning a 4-0 win over Hanover. Senior Nkosi Graham and freshmen Marc Vila, Tancredi Fadda, and Patrick Szankowski all scored in the exhibition victory. In the exhibition, the Aces displayed three goalkeepers with graduate Alex Vidizzoni, redshirt freshman Logan Amick, and junior Aidan Montoure each playing 30 minutes in the combined shutout.
The season gets underway for the Aces at 6 PM (CT) on Thursday evening in Louisville with the game broadcast on ESPN+.
