EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In a crosstown match-up, the University of Evansville volleyball team plays host to USI on Tuesday evening inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse. Match time is 7 p.m. with ESPN+ having the broadcast.
Weekend Recap
- UE traveled to the Comfort Inn-Vitational in Morehead, Ky. over the weekend and dropped its three contests to Eastern Michigan, Duquesne, and Morehead State
- Friday's opener versus EMU saw UE battled to five sets before a late spurt sealed the match
- Giulia Cardona led the offense with 4.45 kills per set while Melanie Feliciano anchored the defense with an average of 3.00 digs on the weekend
Second on the List
- On Sept. 6 against Samford, Giulia Cardona moved to second on the Aces all-time career kills list
- Cardona currently has 1,786 in her career and trails Alondra Vazquez' total of 1,911
- Her season average of 4.61 kills per set paces the MVC and is 9th in the nation
- In the win over UPR-Rio Piedras, Cardona accumulated 30 kills and wrapped up the first weekend with 5.00 kills/set
Approaching The Top 3
- Melanie Feliciano has a career tally of 1,701 kills and is just five away from tying Jessica Kiefer, who is third with 1,706
- Feliciano had a season-high 13 kills against EMU and has 11+ kills in 5 of 9 matches
- After averaging 3.00 kills in the Puerto Rico Clasico, she has continued to play well and has a season average of 2.61 per game
Picking Up The Slack
- Seeing additional playing time with Kora Ruff out, Lexi Owen has put up solid numbers over the last six matches
- The sophomore has recorded 8.6 assists per set over that time including a career-high of 47 against Eastern Michigan
- Owen added her top UE tally of 13 digs against EMU
Scouting the Opposition
- USI enters Tuesday's match with a 2-7 record, but that has not been an indicator of their level of play thus far
- The Screaming Eagles opened the season with wins over St. Thomas and Bradley and took a set against Ohio State at the Florida Invitational
- Ashby Willis and Jasmine Green lead USI with 2.56 and 2.50 kills per game, respectively
