MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Middle Tennessee on Thursday night.
The Blue Raiders struck first in the third minute, but the Aces answered just two minutes later. Brooklyn Robinson found the back of the net in the fifth minute off an assist from Taylor Johnson to level the match at 1-1. The goal marked Robinson's second of the season, while Johnson recorded her first point of the year.
Following the early scoring, both defenses settled in as the teams combined for just five shots over the remainder of the opening half. Middle Tennessee recorded three attempts, while Evansville added two, including a shot on goal from Mia Lancaster and an attempt from Johnson.
Both teams came out with increased pressure to open the second half. Josie Seehafer put a shot on goal for the Aces, while Middle Tennessee registered four shots during the opening 15 minutes. Bri Chirpich turned each attempt away, recording four saves during the stretch.
Evansville created another opportunity in the 65th minute when Lily Kytasaari fired a shot that was blocked.
Middle Tennessee broke the deadlock in the 68th minute before adding another goal in the 83rd minute to take a 3-1 advantage. The Blue Raiders held off the Aces over the final minutes to secure the victory.
With the loss, Evansville moves to 2-2-1 on the season. The Aces return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they open Missouri Valley Conference play against Southern Illinois at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
