EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville Purple Aces lost 2-1 to Drake Saturday afternoon. Their record moves to 2-4-1 with a 0-2-0 conference record.
Both defenses shined in Saturday's matchup. Drake took a 1-0 lead in the 20' minute on the first shot of the game but was stonewalled by the Evansville defense for the rest of the half, only allowing three total shots in the first 45'.
In the second half, both offenses bounced back, with each team combining for twelve shots. Evansville Goalkeeper Bri Chirpich tallied five saves on eight shots over the last 45' adding to her season total of 31 saves.
Evansville created its first opportunity when Josie Seehafer fired a shot on goal that was saved. Eventually, the Aces were able to tie the game when Senior Forward Taylor Johnson scored off an assist from Brielle LaBerge in the 58' minute. This marks Johnson's first goal of the season and her third point of the year. The Bulldogs took the final goal of the game with a strike in the 72'.
With the loss, Evansville moves to 2-4-1 on the season. They return to action October 3rd at 6 PM vs Indiana State.
