ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Junior defender Brielle LaBerge (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, earning her second MVC weekly honor of the season, the league office announced.
LaBerge helped lead the Aces to a 2-0 shutout victory over Austin Peay Thursday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The junior recorded three shots on goal and scored twice while playing 86 minutes for an Evansville defense that posted its second clean sheet of the season.
LaBerge opened the scoring with a spectacular goal in the first half. After receiving the ball with space along the left side of the field, she advanced toward goal before unleashing a 30-yard right-footed shot that bent into the top-left corner and out of reach of the Austin Peay goalkeeper.
She added her second goal of the night in the second half, converting a penalty kick to complete the first brace of her career. LaBerge's two-goal performance marked the first multi-goal game by an Ace since Taylor Johnson in 2024.
LaBerge previously earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors on August 18 after helping Evansville to a 1-1 result against Purdue.
Through four matches this season, LaBerge ranks fifth in the MVC with 1.25 points per game. She also ranks tied for ninth in the conference with two goals and ranks tied for fourth with 0.50 goals per game.
LaBerge and the Purple Aces return to action Thursday, traveling to Middle Tennessee for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
Evansville returns home on September 19, hosting Southern Illinois in its first MVC matchup of the season at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
