David Weir turns 40 on May 10, but the European soccer great and former University of Evansville All-American seems to be getting better with age. Weir was recently chosen as Scottish Premier League Player of the Year (see links below).
Weir burst onto the soccer scene for Coach Fred Schmalz's Purple Aces in the late '80s and earned first team All-America honors in 1990 when he led UE to the NCAA Final Four (now 'College Cup'). He has played professionally for four teams in England and Scotland, and is currently a member of Rangers FC in Glasgow. Weir signed a six-month contract with the Rangers in 2007, but has stayed ever since. In fact, he was chosen as team captain in April of 2009. Weir has played for Scotland's national team for much of his career, and was the first former U.S. collegiate player to appear in the World Cup for a European team.
