Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team gave No. 10 Indiana University a run for its money Wednesday night, withstanding down pouring rain and a slick Black Beauty Field, but was edged, 2-1, by the Hoosiers. With the loss, the Purple Aces fall to 5-8-1 overall, while the nationally ranked IU squad improve to 10-3-3.

With the score remaining at 0-0 for much of the first half, the Hoosiers broke the deadlock in the 39th minute of play when Harrison Petts and Chris Estridge executed a give-and-go in the middle of the box, luring keeper Eric Teppen away from the mouth of the goal. Estridge received Petts’ quick pass on the left side and fired it past Teppen to the back right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Hoosiers expanded its lead in the 57th minute when Alec Purdie passed ahead to Nikita Kotlov in the box. Kotlov’s shot found the back left side of the net.

However, when everything looked in favor of IU, the Aces picked up the intensity and quickly put themselves back into the match, scoring UE’s first goal in the Hoosier series since 2008. At the 58:00 minute mark, senior Aaron Henkle crossed a perfectly placed ball into the middle of the box to freshman Nick Schroeder. Schroeder headed the ball to the back right corner of the net past goalkeeper Michael Soderlund.

Senior Tad Kreamalmeyer led the attack late in the game, taking three good shots on goal in the 73rd, 77th, and 79th minute, but Soderlund made the saves, finishing with five on the day.

In the match, both squads took 11 shots, while UE held a slight 6-5 shot on goal advantage. Kreamalmeyer led UE with four shots, three on goal. Junior Jesse Sharp and Schroeder each took two shots for the Aces.

Teppen tallied three saves in the full 90:00 minutes.

The Aces are back in action Saturday when they play host to Missouri Valley Conference opponent Bradley at 7:00 p.m. CT. Evansville closes out its home schedule Tuesday, Nov. 1, welcoming Western Illinois for Senior Night.
