Day Two Results
CARBONDALE, Ill – The University of Evansville women’s swimming team finished day two of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships with six individual Top-8 finishes. The Aces currently sit in fourth place with 334.5 total points, just 33.5 points behind third-place Southern Illinois.
“It was a very exciting night for us with a lot of great swims,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “I’m very proud of the girls and how they are performing and I am excited to see how we finish tomorrow.”
Christina Schmidgall posted the highest finish of the night for the Aces, taking second place in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:50.67. Alex Howard posted a third place time of 57.23 in the 100-backstroke. In the 400-individual medley, Phoebe Hodina placed fifth with a time of 4:34.36 while Melissa Thurman was right behind her with a time of 4:35.54. Jill Enge finished in fifth place in the 100-breaststroke and Michea Reinitz rounded out the night with an eight place finish in the 100-butterfly, touching in at 57.66.
UE relay teams posted two fourth place finishes on the night. Howard, Enge, Kassandra Beseau and Reinitz turned in a time of 1:46.29 in the 200-medley relay, less than one second away from breaking the UE record. UE finished the 800-freestyle relay in 7:48.32.
Tomorrow marks the final day of the tournament. Events include preliminary and final heats in the 1650-free, 200-back, 100-free, 200-breast, 200-fly and 400-free as well as the final round of 3-meter dives. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m. before the meet closes with the final heats beginning at 4:00 p.m.
