Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
Laruen Seyller and Rachel TenHoor tallied a team-high 11 kills, but Creighton countered with Heather Thorson’s 12-kill effort as the Bluejays took down the Purple Aces volleyball team, 3-0, Friday night at the Carson Center.

For Evansville (11-6, 1-2 MVC), it marked the third-consecutive loss while Creighton improved to 7-7 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in Missouri Valley play.

The evening got off to a rough start for the Aces as the Bluejays cruised to a 25-12 win in the opening set.  Megan Bober notched six assists and six digs to lead all players.  Creighton came out of the gates swinging, taking a quick 9-4 lead.  They kept the pressure on, seeing their advantage grow to as many as 13 points (20-7).  Evansville closed to within nine points, but Creighton notched three kills over the final four points to take the win.

Seyller did her best to help UE even the match in the second frame, leading everyone with seven kills, but a late CU run proved to be the difference.  Evansville grabbed an early 2-1 lead, but it was Creighton who would take the early edge, 14-9.  Four-straight errors by the Bluejays helped them cut the deficit to just a point and a kill by TenHoor would tie the score at 15-15.

After a pair of ties, a Seyller kill gave UE an 18-17 lead.  The back-and-forth action continued, but with the game knotted at 20-20, the Jays score five of the next seven to take a commanding 2-0 lead on the strength of the 25-22 win.  Heather Thorson notched a pair of kills over the final stretch.

It was the Aces who had the upper hand early in the third game, leading by as many as four points (11-7).  Brooke Maher recorded three of her six kills on the night in the opening portion of the set to help UE retain the edge.  It would be short-lived, however, as Creighton would reel off six-straight to go up 13-11.

Evansville would cut the gap to a point (20-19), but another late spurt helped Creighton seal the match, taking a 25-22 victory in third set.

Ellen Sawin led all players with 31 assists while April Lubrecht had a team-high 11 digs.  Katie Klages was right behind her with 10 digs.

The Aces will look to put an end to a three-match winless streak on Saturday as they host Drake at 7 p.m. inside the Carson Center.  The Bulldogs fell to 4-11 after losing at Southern Illinois by a 3-1 final on Friday evening.
