JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Parker Hensley shot an even 71 on Tuesday to help the University of Evansville men’s golf team take third place at the Don Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Tuesday.
Hensley shot a 76 in round one before improving by five strokes to finish in a tie for 14
th place with a 147. Just one shot behind him were
Michael Sainz and
Andrew Luo, who each finished with a 148. Sainz shot a 71 on Monday before wrapping up play with a 77. Luo shot a 72 in the second round.
Griffin Wood tied for 26
th place with a 150 while
Quinn Vilneff was five shots behind with a 155. James Glenn of Sam Houston State was the individual winner, winning a playoff after notching a 2-round total of 140. IUPUI rallied to take the team victory by one shot over Sam Houston.
On the women’s side,
Sydney Skiles was the top finisher, tying for 35
th with a 167 (80-87).
Cathy Doyle was two shots behind with a 169, which tied her for 43
rd.
Lauren Ellerman notched a 172 while
Dana Hayden had a 175 and
Alyssa Key notched a 181.
IUPUI completed the team sweep, taking the team win by seven shots over Sam Houston State (621-614). Shelby Hardy of SHS took the individual win on a playoff after tallying a 150.
Both teams will take a weekend off before returning to action at the Butler Invitational on March 26 and 27 at the Preswick Country Club in Avon, Ind.
