EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men’s golf team will open up spring 2012 play on Monday as it travels to Hoover, Ala. to take part in the Samford Intercollegiate.
Monday’s tournament will mark the first of seven in this spring’s schedule, which wraps up on April 30 with the State Farm MVC Championships.
In the fall, the men had four top five finishes in five tournaments, led by a third place finish in October’s SIUE Intercollegiate in Edwardsville, Ill.
Michael Sainz tied for sixth place in that event.
Sainz along with
Griffin Wood tied for the lowest averages of the fall with a 74.21.
Quinn Vilneff was the third Aces to average below a 75, coming in with a 74.57.
Along with his sixth place finish at SIUE, Sainz notched another top-ten outing at the UD Invitational. Wood’s top finish of the season came when he tied for third place in the season-opening Fossum Invitational where he finished with a 2-over 218. At the Butler Invitational, Wood was four under par with a 212.
The event is set to take place at the Hoover Country Club on Monday beginning at 8 a.m. with Tuesday’s round set for an 8:30 a.m. start. Evansville is one of 18 schools scheduled to participate in a field that also includes MVC rivals Illinois State and Southern Illinois.
