EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Beginning on Monday, the Purple Aces men’s golf team will participate in the State Farm MVC Men’s Golf Championships, which is set to take place at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
 
Play commences on Monday morning as the nine teams will play 36 holes before wrapping up the championship on Tuesday with a single round of 18.  In the pre-tournament poll, Evansville was picked fourth, just three points behind Illinois State. 
 
Wichita State received all nine first place votes while Missouri State was picked second.  The Shockers has finished first or second in the league in each of the last 15 seasons while winning the title on ten occasions.  This year, WSU golfers hold the top five spots in the league in stroke average.
 
A pair of seniors have been the top golfers for UE this season, led by Griffin Wood.  Wood’s average of 74.04 is the lowest on the squad while be bettered that this spring, shooting an average 73.83. His top finish of the year came in the fall opener when he tied for third at the Fossum Invitational.
 
Michael Sainz also posted a sub-75 average, standing at 74.63.  He had an especially solid finish to the fall portion of the schedule, finishing in the top six in the last two matches, including a tie for fifth place at the UD Invitational.
