EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Senior
Ashley Ring led everyone with 15 kills, but Wichita State hit .354 on the night to take a 3-0 win over the University of Evansville volleyball team on Saturday evening at the Carson Center.

Ring posted 15 kills in 47 tries to hit .170 on the night for the Purple Aces (7-14, 3-6 MVC).Â
Genesis Miranda finished the night with seven kills while
Stephanie Cerino posted five.Â
Tathianna Cordero tallied 10 digs while
Grace Carter had 21 assists. Defensively,
Meaghan Holmes posted six blocks, including one solo.

Leading the Shockers was Jenny Whitledge with 12 kills. She was one of three Shockers to finish in double figures as Ashlyn Driskill had 11 and MaryAshton Floyd finished with 10.

Wichita State opened the night with a decisive 25-12 win as two Shockers notched four kills apiece and hit .438 as a team. WSU opened up a quick 4-1 lead and never looked back. Evansville cut the gap to two at 7-5 on an Ashley Ring service ace, but the Shockers responded with a game-ending 18-5 run. Dani Mostrom finished the set with a service ace.

In the second frame, the Shockers took a 25-16 win as Abbie Lehman and Whitledge posted five kills apiece. It was close early on as a Miranda kill made it a 4-4 score. Katie Reilly spearheaded a 3-0 stretch as the Shockers took the lead for good.Â

After the Shockers went up by seven points at 14-7, Cordero did her best to get UE back in it. She helped the Aces score three in a row, including an ace to get within four, but WSU came right back with five in a row and cruised to the win.

Ring notched nine kills in the third set, hitting .389, as the Aces played their best ball of the night. It did not start out that way, though, as the Shockers jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage. From there, Evansville made its way back into the game. A Shocker error cut the game to two at 12-10.

Lillian Rosa helped UE get even closer as she served UE to a 4-0 stretch as the knotted the set up at 18-18 as Ring posted two kills in the run. The decisive moment came with the score tied at 20-20 as Whitledge notched a kill and Reilly followed that up with a service ace as Wichita State clinched the match with a 25-21 win.

The home stretch for UE continues next weekend as Illinois State and Indiana State come to town. The Aces face the Redbirds on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on the Sycamores on Saturday at 6 p.m.
