SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –
Freshman Kayla Katterhenry shot the low round of the tournament for the Purple Aces as her 1-over 73 helped the University of Evansville women's golf team finish in seventh place at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Panther Creek Country Club.

Katterhenry improved in each round of play.  She began the event with a 76 before carding rounds of 75 and 73 to finish in 10th place.  Her efforts helped her finish with a 224, just eight over par over the course of 54 holes.  The finish was the first top 10 outing for a UE player since Hall of Famer Andrea Werner finished 4th in the 2003 MVC Championship.  For her performance, Katterhenry was named the MVC Newcomer of the Year while also finishing on the All-Conference Team.

Coming home in 22nd was junior Cathy Doyle.  She finished her three rounds with a 230.  She followed her opening round total of 78 with a 75 on Monday and a 77 in Tuesday's final round.

Paige Crafton finished the tournament in a tie for 23rd place.  Crafton was tied for sixth place following two rounds of play, but carded an 82 on Tuesday to finish 15 strokes off of par.

In her last tournament for the Aces, senior Sydney Skiles finished with a 3-round total of 240 to take 39th.  Skiles started the championship with a 76 before closing with a pair of 82's.  Maggie Camp improved by two strokes from her Monday total.  She recorded an 85 as she finished with a 250.

Bradley held the lead over opening 36 holes, but Wichita State fought back to take the win.  The Shockers posted a 299 on Tuesday to finish their three rounds with a 900.  That score edged Indiana State by just one stroke.  The Sycamores finished with the low round of the day on Tuesday, a 298, but came up just short.

Illinois State finished in third place while Southern Illinois and Bradley rounded out the top five.  Evansville's score of 925 was good enough for seventh place.  It tied the program's best finish in MVC Championship history.  The Aces also took seventh in 2006 and 2007.  The 2006 championship featured eight schools while 2007 had 10.

Danielle Lemek (Bradley) extended her lead to take the individual win.  Her 212 was seven strokes ahead of Alejandra Arellano (WSU) and Amanda Smith (Indiana State).  Lemek posted a 69 on Sunday before finishing with rounds of 70 and 73.

McCall Christopher of the Sycamores and Cassie Rushing from SIU rounded out the top five.  The duo tied for fourth place with a 220.
