Genesis Miranda and senior
Ashley Ring recorded 15 kills apiece, but Austin Peay finished the night hitting .231 on its way to a 3-1 victory over the University of Evansville volleyball team on Tuesday evening at the Carson Center.

Ring finished her strong night for UE (0-4) hitting an accurate .344 as she posted her 15 kills against just four errors. The second-leading blocker in the Missouri Valley Conference continued to add to her numbers on Tuesday as
Meaghan Holmes posted 8 blocks. Defensively,
Kim Deprez chipped in 18 digs while
Tathianna Cordero had her top effort with 13.Â

Leading the way for the Governors (1-3) was Sammie Ebright. She finished with 13 kills while Liz Landon posted 10. Four APSU players recorded double-digit digs, led by Lizzy Bales' final tally of 14.

A late rally by Austin Peay saw them take an early 1-0 lead in the match. With the score tied at 7-7, freshman
Cathy Schreiber notched her first kill of the night as the Aces took the lead for the majority of the set. The advantage grew to as many as five at 21-16 before the Governors rallied back. Liz Landon captained a 7-2 run as APSU fought back to tie the game up at 23-23. That run extended to a 9-2 rally as Landon posted her fifth kill of the frame to give APSU the lead before Samantha Strother notched the clincher to give the Governors a 25-23 win.

Austin Peay saw its momentum continue into the second game as they jumped out to an early 7-3 lead.  That lead got as high as six points (16-10) before they cruised to a 25-21 win. Ebright was solid against for APSU in the frame, posting a team-best four kills.Â

Evansville started off hot and held on for a 25-22 triumph in the third set. Miranda posted a kill to give UE a 2-1 lead. The Aces would not relinquish that edge, going up by as many as eight points at 21-13. A Cordero service ace, followed up by a Miranda kill, capped off the stretch. Looking to finish off the midweek sweep, Austin Peay battled back. An 8-1 run saw the Evansville lead cut to just one tally at 22-21. Ebright played a pivotal role in the stretch, posting three consecutive kills.

With their backs against the wall and the game on the line, the Aces regained their composure and got the job done. UE forced a pair of errors to go up 24-21 before Ring transformed a Grace Carter set for a kill to finish off the game.

Unfortunately, Evansville was unable to capitalize on the momentum as Austin Peay roared back with a 25-12 decision in the fourth set. The Aces hit -.133 in the frame as opposed to .222 by the Governors.

This weekend, the Aces will look to get in the win column as they travel to northeast Ohio for a tournament hosted by Kent State. Evansville will face Kent State, New Hampshire and Morehead State in the event, which begins on Friday at 12 p.m. CT.
