BURLINGTON, Iowa – An impressive opening day to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship has the University of Evansville women's golf team in fourth place with two more days to go at Spirit Hollow Golf Course.
Leading the way for the Aces is senior Cathy Doyle. She carded a 3-over 75 to rank in a tie for 9
th place. She is one of four UE players to rank in the top 21 on the leaderboard.
Kayla Katterhenry is next up for the Aces. A 5-over 77 has her in a tie for 18
th overall. Maggie Camp and Giulia Mallmann are tied for 21
st with a 78 while Dana Hayden rounded out the squad with an 88.
Doyle's pace is just three off of the lead, which is currently held by Wichita State's Alejandra Arellano. She rounded the course with an even 72. Her teammate Taryn Torgerson is one of two players tied for second place one shot behind.
Arellano's round has the Shockers in first place on the team side. All five WSU golfers rank in the top 29 as they hold a stroke lead over Southern Illinois. Wichita State finished the day t a 301 while SIU checked in with a 302. Loyola heads into Monday in third place (304) with the Aces sitting in fourth place with a 308.
The championship continues with 18 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday morning.
