Box Score HUNTINGTON, W.V. - In a close road battle, the University of Evansville women's basketball team fell in a heartbreaker to Marshall, 72-65, on Thursday evening in Huntington, W.V..
Redshirt junior Marley Miller led the way for Evansville with a career-high 20 points, tallying 14 in the opening half. Contributing to the effort, senior Kerri Gasper recorded her second double-double of the season with a 17-point, 11-rebound performance, while junior Kaylan Coffman grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with two points and four blocks. In the game, the Aces shot 44.4% (12-27) from deep while holding the Herd to just 4-20 (20.0%) from beyond the arc.
The Aces held a three-point advantage at 17-14 following the first quarter after Evansville hit four three-pointers in the opening period with three coming from Miller. In the second quarter, Evansville continued to hold its lead throughout the entire period as the Herd pushed within a point at the break.
To begin the third quarter, Marshall ran out on a 9-0 run over the first 2:06 of the third to take a 37-29 lead over the Aces. As the quarter continued, the Herd pushed its lead to its largest point of 10 at 48-38 with 2:10 remaining in the quarter. Closing the period, Gasper hit a pair at the line as Evansville trimmed the Herd's lead to 50-43 as the game moved into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Kayla Casteel continued the Aces' push to trim the lead with two more free throws to being the fourth followed by a triple from freshman Anna Newman that brought Evansville within two at 50-48. The UE run continued with a personal 5-0 run from Gasper whose three with 7:38 left in regulation gave the Aces a 53-50 lead. Just past the five minute mark of the quarter, Evansville's lead reached its largest point of the night at 58-52 on the sixth three-pointer from Miller. Marshall began to cut into its deficit eventually closing within three points on a layup by Ashley Saintigene with just 1:47 left in the quarter. Over the final 1:07, the Herd went to the line and hit a trio of free throws, tying the game at 61 with 32 seconds remaining. Each team had an opportunity over the final 32 seconds, but neither could capitalize as the game moved into overtime.
In overtime, Marshall took an early two-point lead layup by Taylor Pearson on the Herd's first possession of the first overtime period. Evansville pushed back within a point with 1:24 left in the period on a jumper by Coffman that cut Marshall's lead to 66-65. Following Coffman's bucket, the Herd ended the game on a 6-0 run to capture the 72-65 victory.
Evansville remains in the area as the Aces travel west of Huntington, W.V. for a contest at Morehead State at 1:05 p.m. (CT) on Sunday afternoon.
