Slow start hinders Aces in loss to UNI

Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Falling behind early, the University of Evansville women's basketball team fell to UNI, 74-46, on Friday evening inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Leading the way for the Aces, junior Kaylan Coffman scored a game-high 12 points and tallied seven rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. For the second-straight game, freshman Sydney Tucker set a career-high in scoring, recording a team-best 11 points. For the Panthers, Abby Gerrits finished with 11 points and six rebounds and was joined in double-figures by Karli Rucker, who had 10 points.

Of Evansville's 46 points on the evening, 30 were scored by the Aces' bench.

Opening the contest, UNI took control early on, taking a 22-1 advantage after the first quarter as the Panthers shot 50% (8-16) from the field and Evansville could not find its rhythm, going 0-13 in the first period. The Aces responded in the second period, sparked by Tucker, who went on a personal 8-0 run as Evansville out-scored UNI, 16-15 in the quarter, trailing 37-17 at the half.

In the third quarter, both teams recorded their highest scoring quarters of the evening as the Panthers shot 6-11 (54.5%) from the field and Evansville went 6-14 (42.9%) from the field. Coffman opened the fourth quarter with a jumper that cut the Aces' deficit to 61-36, but UNI rebuilt its advantage, growing it to its largest point of the contest at 31 with 1:48 left in the game. Closing out the game, the Aces went on a 3-0 run over the final 1:15 as the Panthers earned the 74-46 win.

The Aces are back in action on Sunday afternoon as Evansville hits the midway point of a three-game homestand with a matchup with Drake at 1:00 p.m. inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse. Sunday's contest is mental awareness day and fans are invited to participate in free postgame yoga on the Meeks Family Fieldhouse court.
