Aces set for homecoming showdown with Drake

EVANSVILLE – Welcoming in a large crowd for homecoming weekend, the University of Evansville men's soccer team takes on Drake at Arad McCutchan Stadium at 5 PM on Saturday evening.

Last Match: Bradley 1, Evansville 0
  • Neither side could get its offense going the early moments of the match, but it was Bradley who found the back of the net first inside the first half hour.
  • The Braves  pushed the ball to the center of the field before sliding it inside the box to Gerit Wintermeyer who finished it home near post off an assist from Jha'lon Johnson.
  • Wintermeyer nearly added a second first half goal to his tally in the 36th minute as he had his header saved. In the final minute of the first half, freshman Ethan Garvey headed a shot towards goal, but it missed over the crossbar.
  • To open the second half, Bradley found the back of the net within the first minute, but had its goal disallowed due to offside.
  • The Aces had an opportunity in the 81st minute as redshirt freshman Jakub Hall played along to freshman Nkosi Graham who dribbled through the box and recorded a shot that was saved.
  • Evansville scrambled late to create further chances, but the Braves held Evansville off for the 1-0 win.
Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Drake are meeting for the 35th time in the series history with the Bulldogs holding a 17-15-2 advantage in the series.

• The Bulldogs captured the last meeting between the the two in a 1-0 win just over a week ago. The match only went 78 minutes after lightning delayed and eventually ended the match.

• The last match between the two that occurred at Arad McCutchan Stadium on Oct. 13, 2018 went the Aces way in thrilling fashion. With the match tied and seeming destined for overtime, Evansville found what would be the game-winner in the 89th minute for a 2-1 win.

• Evansville last lost to the Bulldogs at home in a 1-0 loss on Oct. 28, 2017.

• The first meting between Evansville and Drake came on Ot. 1, 1989 when the Aces picked up a 2-0 home win over the Bulldogs.

• The Aces are in search of their first MVC win of the season and first since a 4-3 victory over Bradley in the regular season finale in 2018.

• Drake enters the weekend with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark, most recently falling in a matchup with 14th-ranked Missouri State. The Bulldogs are 1-3 in their last four MVC matches with the lone win coming against Evansville.

• Leroy Enzugusi powers the attack for Drake as the junior has four of the Bulldogs' 14 goals on the year, adding an assist for a team-high nine points. Enzugusi has also led the Bulldogs in shots with 37 on the year, more than 25% of the team's 142 total shots.

• In goal, redshirt sophomore Luke Anderson has played every minute for Drake, amassing a 1.49 goals-against average with four shutouts and 28 saves.
