Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Keeping pace through the opening half, the University of Evansville saw Southeast Missouri State use a third quarter run to pull away in the Aces' 83-60 loss to the Redhawks on Sunday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
For the second-straight game, the Aces were led by freshman Abby Feit, who scored a team-best 16 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore Anna Newman reached double-digits with 12 points along with five boards, while redshirt sophomore NaTaya Partee scored nine points and tallied a team-high seven rebounds.
The Aces opened the game with a 4-1 lead after bakets by freshmen Jossie Hudson and Abby Feit. After the early lead, SEMO mounted an 11-2 lead that helped the Redhawks jump in front, 12-6, midway through the first quarter. Evansville battled and stayed within six at the end of the quarter as Partee found Feit cutting to the basket to trim the deficit to six in the closing 40 seconds of the first period.
The second quarter saw another strong run from Evansville as the Aces began the quarter with a 9-3 run to tie the game at 19 on a bucket by Partee. SEMO crept back out in front as the quarter progressed, using free throws to take a 34-29 advantage to the break.
To open the second half, Evansville scored the first four points to cut its deficit to just one at 34-33 with 9:10 left in the third quarter. After the Aces' half-opening run, the Redhawks sprinted away on a 19-2 run that saw SEMO's lead grow as large as 18 at 53-35 with under four minutes remaining in the third period. The Redhawks saw their lead grow to 21 in the final minute of the quarter before Evansville hit a basket to cut it to 61-42 with one quarter to play. Evansville battled its way back as close as 14 on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter, but the Aces could draw no closer in the 83-60 loss.
The story of the game were free throws and three pointers as the Redhawks went 29-44 from the line to 13-16 for Evansville. The Aces struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just three of their 23 attempts from beyond the arc.
Evansville is back in action on Wednesday when the Aces travel to take on SIUE at 7 PM in Edwardsville, Ill.
