Volleyball set for final home weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It is the final home weekend for the University of Evansville volleyball team with the Purple Aces welcoming Missouri State and Southern Illinois to Meeks Family Fieldhouse.  UE takes on the Bears at 6 p.m. on Friday before playing the Salukis at 5 p.m .Saturday.  Seniors Patricia Joseph, Gabriela Macedo and Rachel Tam will be recognized prior to Saturday's match.

Weekend Recap                                   
- In their only match last weekend, the Aces got back on the winning track with a 3-0 win over Indiana State
- Rachel Tam posted 13 kills with Melanie Feliciano and Alondra Vazquez recording 12 apiece
- Patricia Joseph posted a career-high of 10 kills in the win
- Adding to her season dig tally was Gabriela Macedo, who had 24 in just three sets

Chemo Buddies - Spike Out Cancer                                  
- In Friday's match, the volleyball team is working with Chemo Buddies' Spike Out Cancer iniative
- They will be holding a "Miracle Minute" where they will fill buckets for 1 minute a few times during the match
- Donations will be taken and benefit Chemo Buddies, which serves more than 65,000 patients per year and over 175 patients per day

Saving her best for last                                                            
- Patricia Joseph is coming off of the best offensive effort of her career, posting 10 kills in the win over Indiana State
- Coach Morales has focused on Joseph being a bigger part of the offense as of late and that has paid off; over the last three matches - she has 21 kills, an average of 1.91 per set
- For the season, her average stands at 1.23
- Limited to 36 sets last season, Joseph has played in 84 frames this year
- Joseph has had five or more kills in six of the last seven matches
 
Digging into the Record Book                 
- Fresh off of another record-breaking performance, University of Evansville senior Gabriela Macedo was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference with her third Defensive Player of the Week award on Oct. 28
- Macedo set a program single-match dig record while posting the second-most in MVC history with 46 digs in the home match against Drake; for the weekend, Macedo averaged an unbelievable 6.70 digs per set with a total of 67 in ten sets of work
- Macedo's 46 digs against the Bulldogs was the most in any 5-set match in the NCAA in 2019
- With 588 digs on the season, Macedo's tally is tied for 6th-most in program history
 
Record Breaker                                     
- Rachel Tam had one of the best games in MVC history registering 39 kills in the win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 17 and followed that up with an MVP performance at the Skyhawk Invitational on her way to being named the MVC Player of the Week on September 23
- Her total set the Evansville program record was second in conference history, just one off of the all-time mark
- Tam's 39 kills is second-most for any NCAA Division I player in 2019
- Now averaging 3.89 kills/set, Tam is fourth in the MVC
 
Scouting the Opposition                                            
- The weekend begins on Friday when the Aces welcome Missouri State to Meeks Family Fieldhouse
- Former Aces coach Manolo Concepcion is the interim head coach for the Bears and has led the team to a 9-20 mark overall and 6-9 in the league
- Amelia Flynn averages 2.88 kills per set with Laynie Dake just behind with 2.39
- Leah Vokolek has a team-high 3.35 digs per game
 
- Southern Illinois begins the weekend with a 13-14 overall record and are 5-8 in MVC contests
- Alex Washington and Hannah Becker pace the Salukis with 2.56 and 2.50 kills per frame, respectively
- Laura Rojas is solid defensively, sitting with 4.61 digs per set
