EVANSVILLE – After a season-opening win over Brescia, the University of Evansville women's basketball team heads west for its road game of the season at SEMO at 2 PM on Sunday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Last Game: Evansville 77, Brescia 61
- In her regular season collegiate debut, freshman Abby Feit led the way for Evansville with 26 points and 18 rebounds, powering the Aces' offense.
- Also finishing in double figures for Evansville was redshirt junior Jada Poland with 11 points. For the Bearcats, Cassidy Moss paced Brescia with 14 points and six rebounds.
- Evansville took an early 9-5 lead in the game, but Brescia battled its way back to tie the game at nine with less than four minutes to play in the opening period.
- Feit hit a layup for the Aces with one second left in the quarter to give the Aces a one-point lead after 10 minutes of play.
- Brescia stormed out of the gate in the second quarter, building a 22-15 advantage with 7:36 left until the half. Evansville would battle back, eventually taking a four-point lead to the half at 32-28.
- The Bearcats kept the game close throughout much of the second half. Evansville pushed its lead as high as 11 in the third quarter, but Brescia closed within three with 2:25 left in the period.
- The Aces showed resilience to close the quarter, increasing their lead back to eight with a pair of free throws at the end of the quarter.
- The Aces took full control of the contest in the fourth quarter with its largest lead of the game coming at the final buzzer in a 77-61 win.
Previewing the Matchup
- Evansville and SEMO are meeting for the 10th time in the series history on Sunday with the Redhawks owning a 6-3 advantage dating back to the 1980-81 season.
- The Aces and Redhawks last season on Dec. 8 as SEMO earned a narrow 54-50 win at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.
- Just 16% of the scoring for the Aces returns from the 2018 meeting between the two sides.
- The leading scorer for the Redhawks in the last matchup between UE and SEMO is back as junior Tesia Thompson scored 14 points for the Redhawks in the game a year ago.
- Evansville is looking for its first win in a road opener since a 54-45 victory over Ball State on Nov. 9, 2012.
- Evansville's last outing saw the Aces grab a 77-61 win over Brescia on Education Day on Tuesday. The Aces shot just 6-40 from beyond the arc, tying the school record for most three-point attempts, originally set on Nov. 16, 2015 against Miami (Ohio).
- Sunday's game is the first of five non-conference games in which the Aces face a team from the OVC. Last season, Evansville also played five OVC opponents, amassing a 1-4 record.
- The Aces are in search of their second-straight road win after a thrilling 59-56 road victory at Indiana State on March 1, 2018.
