OXFORD, Ohio - Setting a new school record, the University of Evansville men's swimming and diving team competed well on the second night of competition on Tuesday evening at the 2019 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Oxford, Ohio.

Tightly contested, the Aces currently sit in fifth-place at the championships with a team score of 117, just nine points back of fourth-place Ball State. Host Miami (Ohio) holds a narrow 326-323 lead over Missouri State for the lead after two days of competition.

In the opening finals event of the evening in the pool, Evansville saw freshman Oskar Menkhaus set a new school record in the 500 yard freestyle. Competing in the B final, Menkhaus finished in 13th with a school-record time of 4:34.14, tallying four points for the Aces. The record-setting performance marked the second-straight day of action at the championships with a new school record after the Aces set a new school mark in the 800 yard freestyle relay and nearly missed a school record in the 200 yard medley relay. Just off of Menkhaus' school-record pace was sophomore Austin Smith, who finished 14th in a time of 4:35.06 to earn three team points, while fellow sophomore Pete Lingo earned a 16th-place finish, securing one point, with a time of 4:36.51.

Opening diving competition at the championships, the Aces nearly placed a diver in the A final. Senior Miguel Marcano scored a 256.95 in the 1 meter dive prelims, just half a point away from earning him a spot in the A final. Marcano continued his strong performance in the B finals with a ninth-place finish with a score of 238.60, gaining nine points for Evansville.

In the B final, senior Matt Duke swam to a 13th-place finish, recording a time of 20.98.

After a pair of fourth-place relay finishes on the first day, Evansville added another fourth-place relay finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Credence Pattinson, Duke, sophomore Eli James, and senior Jared Sutphin finished 11 hundredths of a second ahead of fifth-place Ball State, capturing 30 valuable points for the Aces.

Evansville returns to Nixon Aquatic Center for the third day of the championships on Wednesday, beginning with the 400 yard IM.
