OXFORD, Ohio - Into the second half of competition, the University of Evansville men's swimming and diving team took part in the third day of action at the 2019 MAC Championships in Oxford, Ohio.
As a team, the Aces moved back into fourth, passing Ball State, and holding a 220.5-212.5 advantage over the fifth-place Cardinals. Host Miami (Ohio) extended its lead at the championships, gaining a 24.5-point advantage (623.5-599) over Missouri State.
The third day of the championships opened with the 400 yard IM, an event in which Evansville had three competitors in the B final. Finishing ninth and winning the B final, junior Phil Cozzens paced the Aces with a time of 4:00.32. A pair of freshmen in David Killian and Ee Tsien Tan followed Cozzens, earning 11th and 13th-place finishes, respectively.
In the men's 100 yard butterfly, sophomore Credence Pattinson led the way. As part of three Aces in the B final, Pattinson led the Evansville contingent, finishing 10th in a time of 49.47. Following Pattinson were junior Zack Sagan (15th-place) and sophomore Ryan Wood (16th-place) who finished within three-hundredths of a second of one another.
Also competing in a B final for Evansville were three Aces in the 200 yard freestyle. Junior Brandt Hudson swam to a 10th-place finish in a time of 1:40.02, while sophomore Austin Smith finished in 12th-place and freshman Oskar Menkhaus captured a 15th-place finish for Evansville.

Competing in the fourth finals event of the evening, the 100 yard breastroke, sophomores Eli James and Pierce Lively represented Evansville. Earning an 11th-place finish, James finished in a time of 56.59, while Lively earned a 16th-place finish with a time of 57.74.
One of the top performances of the championships for the Aces came in the 100 yard backstroke. Competing in the A final, Pattinson swam to a tie for fourth in a time of 49.39 less than two seconds off first-place. Joining Pattinson in the A final was Hudson, who secured an eighth-place finish in a time of 50.24.
Closing out the evening was the 400 yard medley relay. The team of Hudson, James, Pattinson, and senior Jared Sutphin finished in fifth, recording a time of 3:22.56, just .34 seconds off fourth-place finishing Ball State.
The Aces conclude competition at the MAC Championships on Thursday with the final day opening with the prelims of the 1650 yard freestyle.
