Back home in Meeks, Aces welcome in Sycamores

EVANSVILLE - After taking on Illinois State last week on the road, the University of Evansville women's basketball team is back home to take on Indiana State in a single game on Wednesday evening at 6 PM inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Last Time Out: Illinois State 73, Evansville 48
  • Back in her hometown, sophomore Abby Feit led the Aces, scoring 10 points and adding six rebounds on the evening.
  • Just coming-up short of a double-digit performance, sophomore Sydney Thurwalker recorded nine points and matched Feit with half-a-dozen boards.
  • The Redbirds were led by Mary Crompton with 14 points, leading a trio of Illinois State scorers in double-figures.
  • Evansville put up a valiant effort in the first 10 minutes of action, keeping pace with the Redbirds each step of the way. An important point for early momentum came with less than three minutes remaining in the opening quarter as redshirt-senior Jada Poland knocked-down a pair of triples in three possessions to give the Aces a 12-11 lead. 
  • In the second period, Illinois State edged in front with a 22-13 advantage in the second quarter, giving ISU a 36-27 lead at the break.
  • The Redbirds' depth came in handy in the second half as ISU pulled away for the 73-48 victory behind a 37-21 advantage in the second half.
  • Despite the end result, Evansville showed well in the most statistical categories on the night. Showcasing their hustle, Evansville grabbed 33 boards to 39 for Illinois State and the Aces found a good portion of their scoring inside with 20 points in the paint in the game.
  • The defensive effort showed for Evansville, especially in the Redbirds shots from beyond the arc.
  • Illinois State was limited to just 7-24 (29.2%) from three on the evening. 
  • The Aces entered the game in the top 150 in the nation in three-point field-goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot 30.1% from deep this year.
Previewing the Matchup: Indiana State
  • Evansville and Indiana State are meeting for the 61st time with the Sycamores owning a 42-18 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Indiana State enters this season's first matchup of the series having won back-to-back games in the series.
  • Evansville is searching for its first win in the series since a 59-56 road victory over the Sycamores on March 1, 2019, the last MVC win for the Aces.
  • Despite the end result, Evansville showed well in most statistical categories against Illinois State. Showcasing their hustle, Evansville grabbed 33 boards to 39 for Illinois State and the Aces found a good portion of their scoring inside with 20 points in the paint in the game.
  • Evansville has posted back-to-back improved games on the glass. On Saturday, the Aces grabbed 35 boards and were just -3 in rebound margin to the Braves. In Thursday's game against the Redbirds, Evansville finished with 33 rebounds and was -6 in rebound margin.
  • Evansville has led for just 11 minutes and 25 seconds in seven Missouri Valley Conference contests so far this season. In five non-conference games, Evansville led for 135 minutes and 53 seconds.
  • The Aces have failed to reach the 60-point mark in each of their seven MVC contests. In non-conference play, Evansville exceeded the 60-point mark in all five contests.

  • Through eight home games this season, Evansville holds a 4-4 record inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse.
  • At home, the Aces are averaging 11.6 more points per game than they are on the road.
  • Evansville is 12% better from beyond the arc inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse than they are when playing on the road in 2020-21.
Stephens Scoring Streak
  • In her first collegiate season, freshman Rylie Stephens has already made an impact on the Aces.
    After starting the conference season with three combined points in two games at SIU, Stephens has scored six-or-more points in five-straight games, averaging 10.8 points per game during that stretch.
