EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Building for the future, University of Evansville head women's basketball coach Robyn Scherr-Wells has announced a pair of signings for the 2022-23 season.
Scherr-Wells adds Kynidi Mason Striverson and Rayah Kincer in the November early signing period, bringing in two in-state players.
"I am thrilled to welcome Rayah and Kynidi to our program! We are getting two really high IQ guards that will have a tremendous impact on the growth of our program," said Scherr-Wells on the signings. "It is important to me that UE is a destination for top Indiana players and these two players are getting that started for us."
A guard with a proven winning record, Mason Striverson brings a varied set of skills to Evansville from Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Ind. Mason Striverson helped lead the way for her prep side to capture the IHSAA 3A State Championship in February, while averaging over 10 points per contest and adding five rebounds and five assists per game to go along with averaging three steals. After leading her team to the state title, Mason Striverson was selected with her fellow signee Rayah Kincer as an Indiana Junior All-Star.
"Kynidi is a team first point guard. What drew me to her was that she does whatever the team needs her to do to be successful," remarked Scherr-Wells on Mason Striverson. "She is a great shooter and has the ability to be a scorer, but if the game doesn't dictate that, she is not a player that needs to get her shots. She is just as happy with a pile of assists if that helps her team win. She is a very smart player and a leader on the court."
A high-scoring guard, Kincer brings qualities that will make her a difficult matchup at the next level. Signing to the white and purple from Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, Kincer averaged nearly 20 points per game a season ago, while pulling-down over seven rebounds, and generating nearly two steals per contest. For her efforts last season, Kincer joined Mason Striverson as a selection to the prestigious Indiana Junior All-Star team.
"Rayah is a hard-nosed guard that can play in multiple spots on the floor. She has nice size and will give us a bigger option at the point if needed but is also very talented off the ball," commented Scherr-Wells on the new signee. "She can post up smaller defenders and take bigger ones off the bounce. She can score in multiple ways and is a fierce competitor. She is the daughter of a coach, and brings that IQ to how she approaches the game."
