1/23/2022 1:48:00 PM

Box Score VALPARAISO, Ind. - Despite a hot start, the University of Evansville women's basketball team dropped a road contest at Valparaiso, 74-62, on Sunday afternoon in Valparaiso, Ind.

The Aces were led by Je'Naiya Davis with 16 points, while Myia Clark had 13, and Abby Feit tallied her 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards. For the Beacons, Olivia Brown led the way with 21 points on the afternoon.

It was a dream start for the Aces in the opening stanza as Evansville got into rhythm quickly. UE forced back-to-back shot clock violations on the Beacons first two possessions and opened up an 8-0 lead on a three from Je'Naiya Davis with 5:14 left in the first. The lead grew as large as 14 for the Aces on another Davis triple that pushed Evansville's advantage to 16-2 with over two and a half minutes left in the period. Valparaiso would begin to get its offense going in the waning moments of the first quarter, but the Aces maintained an 18-9 advantage over the Beacons after shooting 58% from the field and limiting the home side to just 2-11 from the floor in the first 10 minutes.

Valparaiso flipped the script on the Aces in the second quarter as Evansville's offense struggled to hit shots, going just 1-14 from the field, while the Beacons went 8-18, taking the lead and building it out to nine at 31-22 at the half.

The Aces made a run back at the Beacons to begin the third quarter, keyed by a three by Feit and a layup from the junior that got Evansville back within two at 36-34. Following the Aces run, Valpo's offense got back into gear, closing the quarter on an 18-4 spree to take a 54-38 advantage into the fourth.

Evansville would utilize its high pressure defense late to put pressure on the Beacons, getting as close as 10 in the final minute as Valpo captured the 74-62 win.

The Aces conclude their road-filled December and January stretch that saw six of eight games on the road, returning home to take on Missouri State and SIU on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, inside Meeks Family Fieldhous.
