Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Putting up one of its best battles of the conference season, the University of Evansville women's basketball team was efficient in a 78-58 losing effort to Northern Iowa on Tuesday night in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The trio of Je'Naiya Davis, Myia Clark, and Abby Feit scored all but 11 of the Aces points in the contest with Davis leading the way with 19 on the night. Clark was explosive in the first half, scoring all of her 15 points inside the first 15 minutes of the contest. On the reverse, Feit scored all 15 of her points in the second half. For the Panthers, Bre Gunnels was the top scorer on the night, finishing with 20 points.
A valiant performance for the Aces started from the tip. Facing one of the most efficient offenses in the nation, Evansville came out and put on a strong defensive performance in the opening half. The Panthers were limited to just 31.3% (5-16) shooting in the first quarter, while Myia Clark took over offensively for Evansville. The senior from Schaumburg, Ill. tallied nine points in the first period as the Aces kept pace with the Panthers, trailing by just four at 20-16 after 10 minutes.
Clark continued her offensive explosion in the second quarter, reaching the 15-point mark in just 15 minutes, helping Evansville stay within six at 34-28 with just over five minutes left in the half. Je'Naiya Davis was key to the Aces offense in the second quarter, finishing the opening half with eight points as Evansville shot 40% from the field in the first 20 minutes, while holding the Panthers under 35% in the opening half. Evansville's deficit sat at 11 entering the break as UNI was buouyed by a 28-16 advantage on the boards as the Panthers led 40-29 at the break.
The Panthers returned to their efficient shooting ways in the second half, hitting 59.3% (16-27) in the final 20 minutes, but Evansville's shooting did not wane, as the Aces shot 39% on the night, their second-best shooting night of conference play. In the fourth quarter, Davis and Feit helped propel Evansville's offense, scoring all 15 of the Aces fourth period points in the loss.
The Aces return home to Meeks Family Fieldhouse on Saturday for Equality and Inclusion Night against Indiana State at 6 PM in Evansville, Ind.
