EVANSVILLE - Coming off its best season in five years, the University of Evansville women's basketball team and head coach Robyn Scherr-Wells have announced the signing of two talented transfers.
The Aces added another post presence in 6'3" center Barbora Tomancova from Minnesota and FIU and a point guard in 5'8" Lexie Sinclair from St. Bonaventure.
A skilled post from Brno, Czech Republic, Tomancova brings collegiate and international playing experience to the white and purple. Across two seasons at Minnesota and a season and a half at FIU, Tomancova has seen action in 40 games in her college career. In international play, Tomancova averaged nearly five points and four boards for the Czech Republic's U18 team at the 2017 Euro Championships, leading her national team to a fourth-place finish. Tomancova was also a member of youth national teams for the Czech Republic at the 2015 U16 Euros and 2016 U17 Euros.
"I am so excited for another opportunity to coach Barbora. I had the privilege of being her post coach for a semester at FIU before I came to UE," said Scherr-Wells. "She is easily one of the most talented post players I have had the opportunity to coach. She is tough and finishes well inside. She can stretch defenses with her shooting ability. Her basketball IQ is off the charts. It is like having another point guard on the floor. She is a tremendous facilitator in the post. Our biggest challenge will be to get her to be a bit more score first, pass second in her mindset! She is a very unselfish player. I cannot wait to see her thrive here at UE over the next two years!"
"Evansville felt like home the moment I landed, the place is beautiful but it's the people that made me confident in committing to the University of Evansville," said Tomancova on signing with UE. "I am very grateful for Coach Robyn and her giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to finish what we started when she was my position coach, and I'm excited for this new journey! Go Aces!"
A four-year all-conference member at Bartlett High School, Lexie Sinclair joins the Aces following a season at St. Bonaventure. The Carol Steam, Ill. native made 18 appearances s a freshman for the Bonnies in 2021-22, totaling 28 points. At Bartlett High School, Sinclair did it all, averaging just shy of a double-double with nearly 17 points and nine assists per contest to go along with five boards and five steals per game.Â
"I am thrilled that Lexie has chosen to be an Ace! I had the opportunity to recruit Lexie when she was in high school and have always loved her game and her competitive edge," said Scherr-Wells on Lexie Sinclair. "She will be a great fit in our uptempo style. She has the ability to push the ball in transition and find our scorers, and she is very strong in attacking the rim. She is a nice three point shooter and has continued to work really hard in growing in her consistency from the 3. I am excited about what she brings on the defensive end as well. She will fit seamlessly into our full court presses."
"I chose Evansville because it felt like family. For me that was top priority," said Sinclair on coming to Evansville. "On my visit the coaches and players treated me like I was already a part of the program."
Evansville returns 96% of its scoring and 91% of its rebounding from a season ago that saw the Aces take significant strides forward in Coach Scherr-Wells first season at the helm.
