ST LOUIS -- With her second double-double performance of the early season, freshman Maggie Hartwig has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
In the Purple Aces lone game of the week, Hartwig had the best all-around performance in the team's 103-102 triple-overtime win against Chicago State. In 35 minutes of action on Sunday afternoon, Hartwig put up 18 points while pulling down 15 rebounds at Jones Convocation Center. She was also a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line to be UE's only player with multiple trips to shoot 100%.Â
Hartwig's highlight play came at the end of the second overtime period against the Cougars on Sunday. The freshman forward kept Evansville in the game to force triple-overtime. Down by a point with seven seconds left, Hartwig put up a second chance shot with two to go, forcing the third overtime where the Aces would win 103-102.
With her second double-double performance, Hartwig is now nationally ranked in rebounds per game with an average of eight rebounds per game. Hartwig is also nationally ranked for double-doubles at 46th with two in five games. She is tied for first in the Valley with four other players all having multiple double-doubles.
The Aces return to action on Wednesday night at home for the first time in two weeks. UE will welcome the Bellarmine Knights to town for a 6 p.m. matchup at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.Â
