EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Evansville women's basketball team is ready to earn its first home win on Wednesday night against the IUPUI Jaguars.
Â
A slow first half on offense was too much for Evansville to combat in its 94-82 loss to UT Martin on Saturday afternoon. But UE was able to make a game of the second half, coming back from a 27-point deficit midway through the third to only a 12-point loss. Saturday's game was also the first of the season for the Aces where every available member of the bench got into the game and scored a point. Evansville used all 11 available players to have 27 bench points against the Skyhawks.
Wednesday's game will be the first against the IUPUI Jaguars in 8 years for UE. IUPUI has a slight edge in the overall series but in the past 10 games, Evansville holds the most wins with 6. The Aces last win against the Jaguars game in 2007 as then seniors Courtney Felke and Rebekah Parker combined to score eight of UE's final 10 points in the final 3:41 to overcome a late 50-49 deficit and pick up a 59-53 win.
IUPUI comes into tomorrow's game with an overall 1-7 record and a 0-2 record in conference play. The Jaguars have already faced two Horizon Conference foes in the past week with losses to UW-Milwaukee and Wright State. IUPUI's lone win came at the start of the season against Eastern Illinois at home. The Jaguars picked up the close 77-72 victory behind leading scorer Katie Davidson with a 32-point performance. Davidson is averaging 16.6 points a game through eight on the season.Â
For the third straight game, Evansville has outrebounded its opponent by a 5+ margin. The Aces are now averaging over 41 rebounds a game after picking up 30 boards against UT Martin on Saturday. With 41 rebounds a game, UE is 67th in the nation and 4th in the Missouri Valley Conference.
