Box Score MOLINE, Ill. - In its postseason opener, the University of Evansville women's basketball ran into a hot-shooting Murray State side, falling 88-46 on Thursday afternoon inside Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline, Ill.
Evansville was led on the afternoon by senior guard/forward Abby Feit, who finished just a board shy of her eighth double-double of the season, tallying a 12-point, nine-rebound performance. Â Sophomore guard Elly Morgan came off the bench to make an impact, scoring 11 points for the Aces. Murray State was powered by four double-figures scorers, led by freshman guard Briley Peña, who knocked-down five triples en route to a 21-point game-high outing.
As both teams looked to gain a footing early on, it did not take long for the eight-seeded Racers to get into a rhythm. Murray State opened an early 11-2 advantage inside the first four minutes of the contest, capped by a layup by Bria Sanders-Woods. Feit would be the catalyst behind much of Evansville's first-quarter scoring, recording seven of Evansville's nine points in the opening stanza as the Aces trailed 29-9 after the opening 10 minutes.
Murray State shot nearly 65% from the field in the first period, hitting five triples and nearly matched those numbers again in the second quarter. What started as a 20-point lead going into the second would grow as large as 38 as the Racers owned a 56-18 lead going to the break.
Evansville's defense improved out of the locker room, limiting the Racers to 32 second-half points, but the Aces offense could never quite switch into gear in the 88-46 loss.
The loss concludes what has been a resurgent season for the Aces, who won double-digit games for the first time since 2016-17 and finished with an 11-19 record.
