Swimming and diving to face Bellarmine in season opener

10/9/2026 3:22:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville swimming and diving teams take to the pool for the first time this season Saturday with a home meet against Bellarmine.

Deaconess Aquatic Center will host the meet, which begins at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and UE students get in free with their student ID.

Saturday's meet will mark the first for new head coach Canaan Campbell, who took the helm of the Purple Aces program in March. Since joining the program, Campbell has added eight newcomers to go along with a solid group of returners on both squads.

Highlighting the top returnees for the women are Grace Moody, Jadyn Dauphinais, Ane Madina Garate, Rafaela Makariewicz, and Claire Mewbourne. Each has swam top ten program times in at least two races prior to this year. As a freshman last season, Moody set top 10 program times in three races including the 50-free, 100-free, and 100-fly.

Madina Garate has established herself as a threat in the backstroke races with top ten times in the 100 and 200 races. Dauphinais posted the #9 time in the 100-back last season while accomplishing the feat in the 100-fly. Mewbourne and Makariewicz are both in the top ten list for the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

An equally impressive group returns for the men. Sammy McCaall previously swam top ten times in the 50 and 100 free races while Joseph Capo has excelled in the longer distances.  He has set top ten times in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 free races. Boris Tavrovsky holds the program record in the 200-back event while sitting 5th in the 100-back. Logan Tenison is in the top four in those same events.

Joao Guiherme has top five program times in the 100 and 200-breaststroke events while Jesse Montano is in the top ten in both. Chris Rector excelled in the IM events as a freshman in 2025-26. He holds the #2 time in UE history in the 400-IM while ranking 6th in the 200-IM.

Levi McKinney put together the top season in school history on the boards in 2025-26. McKinney set the program records in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives while qualifying for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. He earned All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention accolades.
