EVANSVILLE, Ind. – On Friday, the University of Evansville volleyball team will open up a weekend homestand, playing host to Indiana State before facing off against Illinois State on Saturday at the Carson Center.

Playing one of its top matches of the season, the Aces imporved to 13-14 and 3-9 in the MVC thanks to a 3-0 win over Southern Illinois last Friday.

Brooke Maher led the way for UE with 11 kills while recording eight digs. Ellen Sawin fell just shy of a triple-double, tallying 10 kills, 15 assists and 9 digs. As a team, Evansville hit .352, their second-best performance of the season.

Maher was once again the top offensive player for the Purple Aces against Southern Illinois. She tallied 11 kills to go along with eight digs. For the season, Maher has recorded 283 kills, an average of 3.08 per set, both tops amongst Aces players. She is also second on the team with 325 digs.

That was shown in her effort against Southern Illinois where she finished just one digs shy of her first triple-double. The senior finished second on the team with 15 assists and 10 kills. She also had nine digs. Sawin hit .643 in the contest, the highest percentage for an Aces player with ten or more kills this season.

Last weekend, Indiana State put a halt to a four-match losing streak and a 1-8 stretch with a four-set win over Drake. Morgan Dall leads the ISU offensive attach, tallying 246 kills on the season. She added to her total against the Bulldogs with 18. Stacy Qualizza recorded 17 kills against Drake while Monique Morris wrapped up the day with 16. With the match against Drake tied at 1-1, Indiana State held the Bulldogs to just 20 points in the final two frames to grab the victory.

Illinois State is 6-2 over their last eight contests after going 1-1 last weekend. The Redbirds swept past Drake, 3-0 on Friday, before falling to Creighton in five sets on Saturday. Shannon McGlaughlin led ISU last week with 24 kills in the two matches, including a 13-kill effort against Creighton.
