CARBONDALE. IL. – The University of Evansville swimming & diving team finished off day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships this evening in Carbondale, Ill., with the Aces currently sitting in fourth place. Evansville has put on multiple strong performances throughout the weekend so far and will go into day three behind Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Illinois State.

Preliminary Events
Caroline Lee started the day off for the Lady Aces in the prelims with a fifth place finish in the second heat of the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:45.07, followed by
Melissa Thurman who finished fourth with a time of 4:37.54 and
Charlotte Lechner who finished fifth with a time of 4:40.38 in heat four.

During the 100-yard butterfly in heat one Abby Yenzer finished first with a time of 1:02.48,
Erin Cary finished third with a time of 1:03.78 and
Caitlin Harty finished fourth with a time of 1:05.36. In heat two
Melissa Ball finished sixth with a time of 1:00.81. Heat three featured
Danielle Freeman who finished first with a time of 57.06 and Michaela Kent who finished fifth with a time of 58.74. In heat four
Sam Montgomery, who broke her own UE school record finished third with a time of 56.68.

In the 200-yard freestyle during heat two
Abby Smith finished first with a time of 1:56.60 and
Sam Horton finished fifth with a time of 2:02.10. In heat three
Maja Magnusson finished fourth with a time of 1:57.61.
Michelle Tipton won heat four with a time of 1:53.41 and
Mackenzie Harris finished sixth in heat five with a time of 1:56.29.

The 100-yard breaststroke featured junior
Mackenzie Powell who finished second with a time of 1:04.65 in heat three.

In the 100-yard backstroke
Taylor Shotwell finished sixth in heat three with a time of 59.44, Michaela Kent finished fourth in heat four and
Taylor Davidson finished sixth in heat five with a time of 59.18

As for the prelims for the 3-meter diving freshman
Alex Hart finished with a score of 230.30 placing her in 11
th and
Stephanie Tran finished with a score of 238.30 placing her in 10
th.

Finals Day 2 Results
The Finals round on day two began with the 200-yard medley relay and the Aces squad of Abby Smith, Caroline Lee, Taylor Shotwell and Maja Magnusson came away with a third place finish in heat one with a time of 1:47.98 and in heat two the team of Michaela Kent, Melissa Ball, Danielle Freeman and Mackenzie Powell finished third as well with a time of 1:44.31.

The 400-yard IM featured Melissa Thurman who finished third in the B-Final with a time of 4:37.09, Charlotte Lechner who finished sixth with a time of 4:39.93 and Caroline Lee who finished seventh with a time of 4:40.90.

During the C-Final of the 100-yard butterfly Melissa Ball finished in sixth place with a time of 1:01.43, Abby Yenzer finished seventh with a time of 1:02.31 and Erin Cary finished eighth with a time of 1:03.77. In the B-Final Michaela Kent finished seventh with a time of 1:00.41 and finally in the A-Final Sam Montgomery finished seventh with a time of 56.68 and Danielle Freeman finished eighth with a time of 56.98.

The 200-yard freestyle C-Final featured Maja Magnusson who finished in second place with a time of 1:57.81 and Sam Horton who finished in seventh place with a time of 2:02.01. The B-Final featured Mackenzie Harris who finished in eighth place with a time of 1:56.77 and the A-Final saw junior Michelle Tipton finish in third with a time of 1:50.61.

The A-Final of the 100-yard breaststroke saw Mackenzie Powell finish in second place, after a strong final 50-yards with a time of 1:03.55.

During the 100-yard backstroke C-Final Taylor Davidson finished in second place with a time of 58.61 and Taylor Shotwell who finished in fourth place with a time of 1:00.03. Michaela Kent finished seventh in the B-Final with a time of 58.91.

The women's 3-meter diving B-Finals featured Alex Hart who scored 246.00 finished in second and Stephanie Tran who scored a 242.95 finished in third.

The final event of day two finals was the 800-yard freestyle which saw the relay team of Michelle Tipton, Danielle Freeman, Abby Smith and Mackenzie Harris finished with a time of 7:39.89 which was a new UE school record.

Evansville will swim again tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. for the preliminary round and the finals will begin at 4:00 p.m.
