EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville baseball team (23-18) received a total of six runs batted in from outfielder
Kevin Kaczmarski and infielder
Jonathan Ramon in an 8-4 victory over Indiana (23-18) on Tuesday night. UE has now completed a season sweep of the Hoosiers including a 2-1, 14 inning win at IU on April 15.
Â
"The key for us is Jonathan Ramon, stepping up, getting some clutch hits and three RBIs," said Evansville head coach
Wes Carroll. "When Ramon gets going, our offense gets going. That is going to be key for us down the stretch this year."
Â
Aces starter
Ryan Billo worked around a leadoff double in the top of the first and UE took the advantage in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Ramon.
Â
IU tied the game on a fielding error in the second and Evansville re-gained the lead in the bottom of the inning with an RBI triple by Kaczmarski and another run producing single from Ramon.
Â
Ahead 3-1, the Aces extended their advantage with a four run fourth inning. An Indiana wild pitch pushed UE up by three but a combination of a fielding error and throwing error put IU down by five. Ramon's third RBI hit, a single, gave UE a 7-1 edge.
Â
Down by six, the Hoosiers would tally two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to draw within three runs.
Â
Leading 7-4, UE added another insurance run in the eighth on a Kaczmarski single to left field.
Brent Jurceka then entered the game to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and complete the UE victory over IU.
Â
Billo (6-1) earned the win, pitching 7.0 innings and yielding just three runs (two earned). The loss goes to Indiana starter Christian Morris who gave up three runs in 3.0 innings. Evansville's pitchers did not walk a single hitter in the game, the fifth time the Aces have accomplished that feat this season.
Â
Ramon's three RBIs fall one shy of his career high. This is the second consecutive game that the New York native has produced three RBIs. With another two hit game, Kaczmarski has extended his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games. He now has 76 multi-hit games in his UE career. Outfielder
Jarod Perry moved his on-base streak to 42 games with a hit and career-high tying three runs scored. Outfielder
Josh Jyawook was 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his career-best 18 game hitting streak.
Â
UE's next game is at home on Wednesday, April 29 against Oakland City. First pitch is 6:00 p.m. at Braun Stadium. Adult tickets are $7 as senior/youth tickets are just $5.
