Aces ink nine for 2018 campaign

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville women's soccer head coach Krista McKendree has announced the signing of nine new Purple Aces.
 
"I am excited to add these 9 wonderful ladies to our family," said Aces head coach Krista McKendree. "Our staff has worked hard over the last couple of years to identify and bring in a well-rounded class for 2018 that can come in and continue to push our team forward. I know this group of young women have the character traits we were looking for and I am eager to get them on campus in August."
 
The Aces' 2018 signing class includes Amanda DaSilva (North Fort Myers, Fla.), Alexandra Eyler O'Fallon, Mo.), Lauren Fischer (Godfrey, Ill.), Amanda Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.), Emily Ormson (Folsom, Calif.), Abigail Phelps (Belleville, Ill.), Jenna Ray (Louisville, Ky.), Linnea Soderberg (Vasteras, Sweden), and Emily Wolak (Rochester, N.Y.).
 
Following a strong prep career, midfielder Amanda DaSilva has signed with Evansville. A native of North Fort Myers, Fla., DaSilva scored eight goals and chipped-in 14 assists in her career at North Fort Myers High School while helping lead the Red Knight to a 20-3-1 record in her senior season. With her club team, GPS Florida West 00 Girls, DaSilva was selected to the 2017 FYSA State Olympic Development team.
 
Joining the Aces from O'Fallon, Mo. is Alexandra Eyler. Playing for Francis Howell High School, Eyler scored 10 goals and 10 assists during her junior and senior campaigns. For her club team, St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, Eyler recorded 16 goals and 10 assists during the 2016 and 2017 club seasons. Eyler helped lead her club side to the state cup semifinals twice and pushed Francis Howell to the district finals.
 
Just like Eyler, Lauren Fischer also joins the Aces after playing her club soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher. A native of Godfrey, Ill., Fischer played her high school soccer for Marquette Catholic High School. Fischer earned a handful of accolades during her prep career including being named 2016 all-area goalkeeper by Advantage News and 2016 third-team all-metro by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Fischer was steady in goal for her Marquette Catholic squad that made the 2016 IHSAA state soccer finals and captured 2015 and 2016 regional championships.
 
The third member of the signing class joining Evansville from St. Louis Scott Gallagher is Abigail Phelps. A native of Belleville, Ill., Phelps starred for Gibault Catholic High School during her prep career, helping lead the Hawks to regional championships her freshman and sophomore years. With SLSG, Phelps competed with the club at the Arizona and California showcases as a junior before participating in the Florida showcase during her senior campaign.
 
A Tennessee East/West All-Star, defender Amanda Hamm signs with the Aces after a strong prep career. The Brentwood, Tenn. native played her prep soccer for Brentwood High School and club soccer most recently for Tennessee Soccer Club 99. For Brentwood, Hamm was named an all-state team selection for a team that recorded eight shutouts. Hamm helped lead the Bruins to the semifinals of the state tournament in 2017.
 
Joining the Aces from the west coast is forward Emily Ormson. A native of Folsom, Calif., Ormson was the offensive most valuable player and the leading goal-scorer for the Capital Athletic League after a successful season with Vista del Lago High School. Along with her high school, Ormson played her club soccer for San Juan Soccer Club.
 
An all-state honorable mention selection as a forward, Louisville, Ky. native Jenna Ray joins the Aces following a strong career at Louisville Male High School. Ray earned all-district and all-region honors to go along with her all-state honorable mention recognition during her prep career. In her senior campaign, Ray scored 14 goals and contributed three assists for a Bulldogs
squad that went 16-7-1.
 
Making the trip across the Atlantic to join Evansville is midfielder Linnea Soderberg. A native of Vasteras, Sweden, Soderberg captured a pair of district championships in 2014 and 2015 with the futsal and soccer teams. Soderberg helped lead her high school team to an International High School Tournament championship in France during her career. Soderberg also played for Gideonsbergs IF first team in 2016 and 2017, a team that captured the Swedish national championship in 1992 and the Swedish Cup in 1993.
 
The final signee for the Aces is Emily Wolak. The Rochester, New York native played her high school soccer for The Aquinas Institute where she was named a three-time first-team private parochial player, first-team all-greater Rochester, and first-team all-state, while leading her school to a pair of sectional and regional titles and a state championship. Wolak also played soccer for her club side, Empire United, an academy that saw 14 of its players sign to play collegiate soccer.
