ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Hugo Amo has been named Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Amo earned the honor after recording a career-high nine saves in Evansville's 1-0 victory over Western Michigan. The clean sheet marked his second consecutive shutout against an MVC opponent and his fourth overall of the season. The Aces have opened conference play with back-to-back 1-0 victories, moving to 2-0-0 in MVC action and into a tie for first place in the standings.
Amo's nine saves are tied for the most by an MVC goalkeeper in a single match this season. He is also the only goalkeeper with a 1.000 save percentage in MVC play. Amo leads the conference with four shutouts, ranking 29th nationally, while his 41 total saves and 3.73 saves per game rank fourth in the MVC.
The weekly award marks Amo's second MVC Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season. He previously earned the award on Sept. 8 following an impressive performance at Kentucky.
Amo and the Purple Aces return to Arad McCutchan Stadium on Saturday evening for an MVC matchup against Bowling Green on Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with the match streaming live on ESPN+.
Evansville will then hit the road to face No. 18 Wisconsin on Tuesday.
