Volleyball To Finish Season At Home

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – This weekend, the University of Evansville volleyball team will wrap up the 2011 season with a pair of home games against No. 11 Northern Iowa and Bradley.
 
Despite being 2-15 over its previous 17 contests, the Aces will look to make a mark on the final weekend of the season. Evansville will face the nationally ranked Panthers on Friday before finishing the year against the Braves on Saturday.
 
Evansville enters the final weekend of the season with a 13-18 mark and 3-13 in the MVC.  Last weekend, the Aces fell in a pair of matches at Missouri State and Wichita State.  Rachel TenHoor was the offensive leader for the weekend with 14 kills.  Brooke Maher was just behind with 13.  Ellen Sawin led the team in assists while Katie Klages was the leader in digs.
 
Northern Iowa comes to the Carson Center ranked 11th in the nation with a 28-1 mark and a perfect 16-0 league record.  The Panthers have not lost an MVC game since the 2008 season, winning 52-straight.  With a pair of wins this weekend, UNI will clinch its third-consecutive 30-win season.  Michelle Burow has 277 kills to lead UNI while Krista DeGeest has 132 blocks, tops in the MVC.
 
Bradley is fighting for a berth in the MVC Tournament.  The Braves begin play two games behind Indiana State for sixth place and 1/2 game behind Drake for seventh.  Bradley is 11-15 overall and 4-12 in the league.  Freshman Courtney Keefe helped highlight a balanced offensive attack in a five-set victory against Creighton with a match-high 16 kills.
 
This weekend will mark the final matches for the four seniors on the Aces. Ellen Sawin, April Lubrecht, Brooke Maher and Kaisi Nixon. All four have been pivotal to the Aces play over the last four seasons with each seeing significant time in their careers.
 
Maher made her mark on the Evansville record book as she will wrap up her career second in program history in total attempts (4,181) and is currently 5th in digs with 1,393. She will leave holding three of the top ten season marks for attempts.
 
Sawin will finish up her career at the University of Evansville in second place in career assists.  She currently has 3,828 and trails Betsy Knott, who finished her time at Evansville in 1998 with 5,067 assists.  Lubrecht moved into the top ten career list for digs last weekend
 
Friday and Saturday’s matches are both set for 7 p.m. start times at the Carson Center
