Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Led by stellar performance from all four seniors, the Purple Aces volleyball team finished up the 2011 season with a 3-1 win over Bradley at the Carson Center on Saturday.
Brooke Maher finished with 17 kills and 17 digs while
Kaisi Nixon recorded a 13-kill effort.
Ellen Sawin notched 11 kills and 32 assists while
April Lubrecht notched 13 digs.
The seniors helped UE (14-19, 4-14 MVC) to a quick 3-0 start in set number one. Evansville would hold the lead until Bradley (12-16, 5-13 MVC) fought back to tie the game up at six apiece. The Braves took their first lead on a UE setting error to go up 14-13 before the Aces tallied the next four points to go up 17-14.
After the lead flip-flopped back and forth, UE would take a 24-22 lead on a Sawin kill. The Braves did not relent, scoring the next three before escaping with a 28-26 win on a Megan Schmidt kill.
Game two was another hotly-contested affair. Evansville was the first to garner a lead of more than a point, going up 9-6 following a pair of Maher kills. The lead grew to six (17-11) as
Rachel TenHoor notched three kills to help the Aces establish their largest lead of the game.
Bradley closed within a pair on two occasions, but two more TenHoor kills took care of the final tallies as UE took a 25-22 win.
Evansville used the momentum it gained from the second game to take a pair of blowout wins in sets three and four. Bradley held just two leads in the final two games, leading 1-0 and 2-1 in the fourth. Game three saw UE jump out to a quick 10-4 lead as four Aces recorded early kills.
The Aces continued to add to the lead as it would reach double digits for the first time when Hannah Wilson notched a kill to put UE up 24-14. Nixon finished off the set with a kill of her own.
Set four saw the Braves keep it close early, but with the score tied at 6-6, five-straight UE points would be all they would need to cruise to the win. Three Bradley errors along with kills by Sawin and Nixon contributed to the run. Once again, the lead would only grow from that point as the Aces finished off the match and their season with a 25-14 win.
Aside from the four seniors, Rachel TenHoor put up a 12-kill effort while Katie Klages recorded 15 digs. Amy ANgelos led Bradley with 13 kills while Alise Tupuritis notched 12. Madison Kamp led everyone with 44 assists.
